Senator Dino Melaye [Kogi West senatorial district] has slammed a N5 billion libel suit against SaharaReporters, an online media outfit.

The suit was filed at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court.

Senator Melaye’s suit is premised on the allegation by SaharaReporters that he forged the result from Ahmadu Bello University [ABU], Zaria, where he claimed to have graduated.

SaharaReporters had, in a report, alleged that Melaye did not complete his first degree in Geography at the said University.

The Senator is suing the media firm for alleged defamation of character, wrongful accusation, among other charges.

Recall that the Senate, on Tuesday, resolved to investigate Melaye referring the matter to its Ethics and Privileges Committee.

The committee is to investigate Melaye based on the claim that he did not possess an authentic first degree certificate from ABU, Zaria.

Reacting however, Melaye said he got his first degree several years ago and that his name was just being smeared by people who are against his rising political profile.

He also affirmed that he had third degree from same university and is currently working on his seventh in whole.
