NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has opened up about his decision to decline an invitation to the highly anticipated wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce.
Speaking on the Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo podcast, Barkley revealed that although he appreciated the invitation, he chose not to attend the star-studded ceremony because he expected it to be overwhelming.
“I don’t go to weddings or funerals,” Barkley said. “But I did get an invite, and I politely declined because I thought it was going to be a crap show.”
Despite his candid remark, Barkley made it clear there was no ill will. He expressed admiration for Travis Kelce and his brother, Jason Kelce, noting that he values his relationship with them.
The basketball legend also shared a more personal reason behind his decision his preference for a quieter lifestyle.
“I just want to hang out and play golf, and I don’t want to dress up and all that other stuff,” he added, emphasizing that he would rather spend his free time relaxing than attending large, formal gatherings.
Barkley was not the only high-profile guest who missed the glamorous July 3 wedding. Media personality Ryan Seacrest also reportedly had to cancel his plans due to professional commitments tied to the July 4 America 250 celebrations.
The wedding, held at the iconic Madison Square Garden, drew a massive crowd of celebrities and public figures, further cementing its status as one of the most talked-about events of the year.
While Barkley may have skipped the celebration, his candid explanation has sparked conversations online highlighting how even the biggest stars sometimes prefer simplicity over spectacle.
