AWKA, Anambra State — The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has issued a strong warning to residents against relying on unverified HIV statistics circulating on social media, urging the public to seek accurate information from official sources to avoid misinformation and unnecessary panic.
The agency expressed concern over the spread of false or misleading data regarding HIV prevalence in the state, which has surfaced on various social media platforms. Officials noted that inaccurate figures could undermine public trust in the healthcare system, discourage testing, and hinder efforts to combat the spread of the virus.
According to the agency, all official HIV-related data must be verified by the appropriate government health authorities and based on scientific evidence. The public was encouraged to obtain information from the Anambra State Ministry of Health, ANSACA, and other accredited health institutions to ensure accuracy.
The agency’s warning aligns with the broader national push for accurate health information dissemination, particularly regarding infectious diseases, and underscores the importance of combating the spread of health-related misinformation online.
