The Anambra State Government has launched a new engagement drive with market leaders and traders aimed at expanding health insurance coverage within the informal sector.
The initiative is being driven by the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency as part of efforts to strengthen access to affordable healthcare across the state.
During recent meetings with executives of major markets and leaders of the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, officials announced plans to set up registration points directly inside major markets.
According to the Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr. Uchechukwu Ezeaka, many traders have struggled to enroll in the health insurance scheme due to the demands of their daily business activities and the inconvenience of visiting registration centres.
To address this challenge, the agency will deploy enrollment officers to various markets to register traders and their dependants on-site, making the process more accessible and efficient.
ASHIA says the initiative is expected to significantly boost participation in the state’s health insurance programme and bring Anambra closer to achieving universal health coverage.
