(DDM) – The Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom, Chief Ayirimi Emami, has strongly criticized the continued use of the title “Warri Kingdom” by non-Itsekiri monarchs, describing the practice as misleading and historically inaccurate.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) notes that Chief Emami made the statement during a modest event in Warri to mark his eighth anniversary as Ologbotsere of the kingdom, one of the most revered chieftaincy titles in Itsekiri land.

Speaking at the event, Emami maintained that only the Olu of Warri is recognized as the legitimate ruler of Warri Kingdom, noting that historical and colonial records clearly affirm Itsekiri sovereignty over the area.

According to him, several neighboring communities, including some Ijaw and Urhobo settlements, had in the past sought administrative separation from Warri, further establishing the distinct nature of the Itsekiri monarchy.

He cautioned against what he described as “intentional distortion of history” and warned that attempts to appropriate the Warri identity for political or cultural leverage could fuel unnecessary tension among ethnic groups.

Emami, known for his outspoken defense of Itsekiri heritage, emphasized that the Warri Kingdom has maintained peaceful coexistence with neighboring tribes for decades and that mutual respect remains vital to regional stability.

He urged leaders across ethnic lines to focus on promoting peace, development, and unity rather than engaging in what he termed “symbolic rivalry over traditional identity.”

In his message to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, Chief Emami reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to preserving the values, customs, and integrity of the Itsekiri nation.

The Ologbotsere used the occasion to bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, praying for wisdom, courage, and good governance in their efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians.

He further appealed to young Itsekiri people to stay united and uphold the traditions handed down by their ancestors, warning that disunity and internal conflicts weaken the strength of the Itsekiri voice.

Emami also acknowledged the contributions of past Itsekiri leaders and scholars who preserved the cultural history of Warri, saying their efforts ensured that future generations would not forget their origins.

The anniversary celebration was attended by prominent chiefs, youth leaders, and cultural figures who commended Chief Emami’s consistency in defending the dignity of the Warri Kingdom.

The Ologbotsere concluded by urging government and traditional institutions to work together in maintaining peace among the diverse ethnic communities of Delta State, stressing that only unity can bring sustainable progress to the Niger Delta.
