Chief Isong hails Akwa Ibom Governor for ‘Transformative Maritime Projects’ in Oron

Newsday Newspaper Publisher, Chief Edet Isong, a foundation member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Okete Okete Oro, has commended Governor Umoh Eno for the groundbreaking maritime infrastructure project recently launched at Oron Beach in Oron Local Government Area.
Speaking to journalists during the flag-off ceremony, Chief Isong expressed his appreciation for the governor’s commitment to transforming the coastal region into a hub of economic and tourist activity.
The project, which includes steel shore protections, four jetties, a terminal, a cold room, a warehouse, a 5,500-square-meter car park, internal road networks, and a recreational center, is expected to revitalize the once-thriving Oron-Calabar Waterway.
Chief Isong noted that the initiative aligns with the governor’s vision of economic inclusiveness and development, particularly for the Oron people.
“With the passenger ferry construction already at 70% completion, life will gradually return to this lively coastal area, which was once the center of attraction in the old Cross River State,” he said.
He emphasized that the new jetty terminal would significantly reduce the risks associated with unsafe boat trips, particularly for students and daily commuters, thereby saving lives and boosting confidence in water transportation.

Chief Isong also highlighted the strategic importance of establishing a naval base in the area, stating that it would address the persistent issue of sea piracy, which has been a major setback for economic activities in the region.
“The presence of a naval base will improve security and create a conducive environment for trade and tourism to thrive,” he added.
The PDP chieftain further praised Governor Eno for the ongoing construction of the Nsit Atai-Okobo Road, describing it as a critical infrastructure project that connects Oron Federal Constituency to the state capital.
According to Chief Isong, the road not only fulfills the governor’s campaign promise of integrating Oron into the state’s economic framework but also serves as a testament to his commitment to the well-being of the people.
“Governor Umoh Eno has lived up to his promise of making Oron an integral part of Akwa Ibom State through economic inclusiveness.”
He added that the road project, along with other development initiatives, positions the governor as a strong contender for re-election in 2027.
The PDP bigwig also took time to commend the governor’s investments in model schools and health centers across the state, describing them as noble and people-centric.
“Investment in primary healthcare and primary education is an investment in the future of our state. The governor’s focus on these areas shows that he truly cares about the people,” he said.
In addition to praising Governor Eno, Chief Isong celebrated the efforts of Mr. Martins Esin, the member representing Oron Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, for his quality representation and impactful projects both at home and in Abuja.
Calling for unity and continued support, he urged the people of Oron and Akwa Ibom State to rally behind Governor Eno. “The governor is determined to leave the state better than he met it. It is our duty to support him in achieving this noble goal.”
