A disturbing case of child abuse has triggered widespread outrage following the arrest of a woman accused of brutally assaulting a young boy in Owerri, Imo State.
Mrs. Juliet Igwe was recently arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court on charges of grievous harm and attempted murder involving her 5-year-old son, Onyinyecchi.
According to reports, the child suffered multiple injuries allegedly inflicted by his mother, who is also accused of abandoning him after the abuse.
The boy was later rescued by the Stand For Humanity Foundation, led by activist journalist Chidiebube Okeoma, whose intervention brought attention to the case and ensured the child received urgent care.
The Imo State Police Command has since taken the suspect into custody as investigations continue.
The shocking incident has sparked renewed calls for stronger child protection measures and accountability for caregivers, with many Nigerians expressing anger over the abuse of a vulnerable child entrusted to parental care.
