Chiwetalu Agu Mourns Alexx Ekubo, Says Nollywood Has Lost a Gifted Storyteller

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has paid a heartfelt tribute to late actor Alexx Ekubo, describing his death as a painful loss to the Nigerian film industry.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Agu expressed deep sorrow over Ekubo’s passing, praising him for his passion, dedication, and exceptional talent.

“Rest in peace, Alexx Ekubo. I am deeply saddened by your passing. As a fellow actor and someone who has walked this path for many years, I know how much passion, sacrifice, and heart you poured into your craft,” he said.

Agu noted that Ekubo’s untimely death has robbed Nollywood of a promising talent whose career still had much more to offer.

“You were young, talented, and full of promise, and it hurts to see a life like yours go out so soon. The stage and screen have lost not just an actor, but a storyteller who still had so many roles left to bring to life,” he added.

He also extended his condolences to Ekubo’s family, friends, and loved ones, praying that they find strength and comfort during this difficult time.

Alexx Ekubo passed away at the age of 40 following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

Ahead of his burial, family members, friends, and colleagues gathered in Arochukwu, Abia State, to receive his body as it arrived in his hometown.

The funeral convoy made a brief stop at the palace of the Eze Arochukwu before proceeding to the family compound, where mourners paid their respects.

Residents of the community joined several Nollywood stars in a solemn procession through the village, wearing T-shirts bearing Ekubo’s image and carrying his photographs in honour of his memory.

Among those present to bid him farewell were his close friend IK Ogbonna, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, and fashion entrepreneur Yomi Casual, who all travelled to pay their last respects.
