Chris Uba asks INEC to sack brother, Senator Andy, Oduah, ors

A new twist has surfaced from the elections which pitted brother against brother, Andy Uba versus Chris Uba [above], in Anambra State.

Despite the Supreme Court ruling of Wednesday, February 24, that it lacked jurisdiction to clarify its judgement in the case of the leadership tussle in the Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stating that its judgement was clear and unambiguous, the matter is yet to be closed.

The candidates of the Ejike Oguebego-led group, led by Chris Uba, have remained adamant, saying that the Supreme Court ruling has cleared the way for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to issue certificate of returns to them.

In a letter written to INEC by A. C. Okozio, esq. for Chris Uba and others, it demanded that INEC issue certificates of return to its clients, especially as the injunction issued by the High Court for Senators Stella Oduah and Andy Uba, amongst others, stopping INEC and others from acting until the matter had been resolved by the Supreme Court, had elapsed.

The letter debunked the notion that the Supreme Court did not sack Oduah, Uba and others, describing it as cheap propaganda.

The letter urged the Commission to act “honorably” and restore its clients to the National Assembly.

It said in part: In view of the foregoing, the coast is now clear for our clients as there is nothing hindering the commission from complying with the orders of the court, and issuing our clients with certificates of return. Therefore we request your good offices to tow the honourable path and follow due process of law and issue our clients with certificates of return.

“We shall forward a copy of the supreme court’s order striking out the motion in due course, as same has not been made available to us at the time of writing.

“The Supreme Court did not entertain the motion, it struck it out for lack of jurisdiction to interpret or clarify a judgement it already delivered.”

The Uba brothers and their respective teams are set for a show down, to represent the people of Anambra in the National Assembly.
