Coalition: Sowore Rejects Political Marriage With Obi, Atiku, Others

Omoyele Sowore, fiery human rights activist and former presidential contender, has emphatically rejected any coalition with Nigeria’s old political elite branding them as “destiny destroyers” responsible for the nation’s ongoing failures.

Speaking on NewsCentral’s Breakfast Central program Friday, July 4, 2025,  Sowore didn’t mince words, taking direct aim at former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and other long-standing political actors.

According to Sowore, Nigeria’s systemic collapse is the direct result of recycled leadership masquerading as change agents.

“Nigeria has been dragged down for 65 years by compromises and unprincipled alliances,” he declared. “And that’s exactly what broke this country.”

He dismissed calls for unity among opposition forces, warning that joining forces with politicians who have already failed the people would only perpetuate a vicious cycle of misrule.

“I cannot build a bridge with the same people who keep destroying it. These are not bridge builders. They are country and destiny destroyers,” Sowore fired.

The Sahara Reporter’s publisher warned Nigerians against trusting leaders who have worn different political jerseys but delivered the same disappointing results former ministers, ex-governors, and career lawmakers with little to show for their decades in power.

Instead of aligning with them, Sowore doubled down on his grassroots movement.

“Our coalition is with the oppressed, the suffering masses, those determined to fight for a Nigeria that protects and provides for all,” he said.

He made it clear: real change will not come from old alliances with familiar failures, but through radical realignment with Nigeria’s excluded and downtrodden majority.
