Container crushes cars in Kogi market

Several passengers have been reportedly trapped in two cars crushed by an articulated truck at Lokogoma Market in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Reports indicate that the incident, which took place around 3:45pm, involved a truck that caught fire and subsequently crushed the cars.

Eyewitnesses described a dramatic scene where the truck, after experiencing brake failure, began moving in reverse before its container fell onto the cars.

One of the cars was occupied by a woman and seven children she had just picked up from school.

Though, no one was seriously injured. The other car was unoccupied at the time of the accident.

Mrs. Ramatu Audu, a local shop owner, recounted the harrowing moment, noting that the woman had parked the car just before running into the shop.

Emergency responders, including police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel, Civil Defence, and state security officials led by Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), quickly arrived at the scene to assist.

SP Williams Aya, the Police spokesman confirmed that there were no fatalities.

He stated that the container’s collapse resulted in minor injuries to the seven children, who were taken to a specialist hospital for treatment.
