The National Chairman of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), Prince Rwang Pam Jnr, has made a bold call for decisive reforms in Nigeria’s electoral process and immediate action to tackle nationwide insecurity.

Speaking on AIT’s flagship breakfast program, Kaakaki, on Saturday, the COPDEM leader addressed various national political issues.

These included the growing trend of political defections, the deteriorating security situation, and the urgent need for electoral reforms.

According to Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), Prince Rwang Pam Jnr emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fully implement real-time electronic transmission of election results directly from polling units.

He stated that this move is vital for strengthening transparency and public trust in the electoral process.

He criticized the practice of suspending voter registration until a few months before elections, describing it as counterproductive.

According to him, voter registration should be a continuous process, not just an occasional event, in order to guarantee inclusive participation in democratic governance.

Furthermore, Prince Pam called on INEC to establish an independent logistics department responsible for the prompt and efficient distribution of election materials.

He noted that delays in delivering materials to polling units often lead to voter disenfranchisement and give room for manipulation.

Turning to the 2027 elections, the COPDEM Chairman reassured Nigerians of the group’s readiness to actively participate in the democratic process.

He declared that COPDEM will support its members to contest and occupy legislative seats at the National Assembly.

According to him, this would be a turning point for ordinary citizens to begin to feel the real benefits of democracy.

On national security, Prince Pam expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity plaguing all regions of the country.

He urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency and launch a nationwide offensive against insecurity.

He insisted that the threat posed by criminal groups is too severe to be handled with half measures.

He stated that no meaningful development can occur when citizens live in fear of violence, kidnappings, and terrorist attacks.

He warned that continued neglect of security challenges could lead to a total breakdown of law and order.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, Prince Rwang Pam Jnr reaffirmed COPDEM’s unwavering commitment to championing electoral reforms, national security, and good governance.

His appearance on Kaakaki has further solidified COPDEM’s image as a rising political force, dedicated to promoting the voice and will of the people in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
