The Federal Government has reportedly begun steps to extradite former Bayelsa State governor, Timipre Sylva, over allegations linking him to a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.

Sylva, who is listed as the seventh defendant in the case, is said to be currently on the run and is being prosecuted in his absence.

According to multiple sources,  the government has now involved INTERPOL in an effort to track him down and bring him back to Nigeria to face trial.

The move comes as authorities prepare to arraign six other suspects before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged plot.

The case was filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Those expected in court include a retired major general, a retired naval captain, a serving police inspector, and three other individuals.

Court proceedings are scheduled to begin before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
