Davido, born David Adeleke, has revealed that he is stepping away from releasing new music for an unspecified period.
The Afrobeats star made this known during a recent livestream conversation, where he addressed fans who have been eagerly anticipating his next project. According to him, he is currently taking a sabbatical from music and is in no rush to drop new songs.
Davido explained that his existing catalog is still performing strongly, particularly in nightlife spaces, noting that a significant number of tracks played in clubs are still his. He suggested that this continued dominance allows him the flexibility to take a break without worrying about losing relevance in the industry.
He also shared his thoughts on the growing trend of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, describing it as a positive and exciting development within the entertainment scene. The singer expressed admiration for how the concept is gaining traction and creating new opportunities for entertainers beyond music.
The conversation comes amid recent buzz in the celebrity boxing space, where Carter Efe secured a major win against Portable to claim the top spot. Following the match, Portable voiced frustration, alleging a lack of support from fellow artistes.
Davido’s decision to pause his music releases has sparked reactions among fans, with many expressing mixed feelings some supporting his need for rest, while others hope the break will be short-lived.
