Ex-Taraba Governor Jolly Nyame Dumps APC, Cites Marginalisation

Former Taraba State governor and APC chieftain, Jolly Nyame, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing what he described as years of marginalisation and unfair treatment of his people within the party.

Nyame announced his exit while addressing members of his political support group shortly after a Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo.

A video of the gathering later surfaced online.

According to the former governor, the decision followed consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders from Zing Local Government Area, who urged him to seek a new political platform.

He said despite years of loyalty and contributions to the APC, his people had continued to face political neglect and exclusion from key decisions in the state.

“As the Dabon Yarro and leader of the entire Yorro community worldwide, comprising Mumuye, Yandan, Yorti and others, if they will not honour me, who then will they honour among my people?” Nyame asked.

The former governor argued that his community had remained sidelined politically for years and deserved stronger representation in the affairs of Taraba State.

Nyame also revealed that many supporters had been mounting pressure on him to return to active politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“At my age, contesting elections is not a priority for me, but the pressure from the people has continued to grow because they feel their voices have been ignored for too long,” he said.

He warned that continued silence over what he called injustice against his people could further deepen their political challenges, urging his supporters to remain united as they chart a new political direction.
