The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended two individuals in Kaduna for allegedly operating a fraudulent recruitment syndicate under the guise of the agency.
The suspects, identified as Aliyu Ibrahim and an accomplice, were arrested following credible intelligence that uncovered their network, according to security sources.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the syndicate may have defrauded between 250 and 350 unsuspecting job seekers by promising them employment within the DSS.
“The suspects are currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate who remain at large”, a security source revealed.
The DSS issued a warning to Nigerians to be cautious of fraudulent recruitment schemes, emphasizing that the agency does not use agents or intermediaries in its hiring process.
“All DSS recruitment exercises are announced exclusively through official and authorized communication channels”, the agency stated.
It further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. The DSS assured citizens of its commitment to protecting them and bringing those involved in such crimes to justice.
These arrests come against the backdrop of increasing cases of job racketeering across Nigeria, where fraudsters exploit the country’s high unemployment rate to prey on desperate job seekers.
The DSS has reiterated its resolve to combat such criminal activities and safeguard the integrity of its recruitment process.
