Ebonyi Indigenes Massacred In Anambra As Gunmen Storm Peace Meeting
DDM News

Anambra, Nigeria – The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that 10 individuals lost their lives when gunmen launched a surprise attack during a community meeting in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the tragic incident occurred on the evening of Monday, June 30, when armed men stormed the venue and opened fire on those in attendance.
Police spokesperson DSP Tochukwu Ikenga stated on Tuesday, July 1, that the gunmen arrived in two SUVs and began shooting indiscriminately at the unarmed gathering.
“The armed criminals attacked the group unprovoked, shooting sporadically. Ten victims were confirmed dead, and their bodies have been deposited in the morgue,” Ikenga said.
Nine others sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
The police say a joint security operation has been launched at the scene to investigate the attack and hunt down those responsible.
Eyewitnesses claim that the victims were mostly indigenes of Ebonyi State who had assembled for a regular meeting.
Community members allege that the actual death toll may be higher than the police report, suggesting up to 19 people were killed in the assault.
While the motive for the attack remains unclear, residents have raised two major theories.
Some believe it may be linked to renewed efforts to enforce the sit-at-home directive observed on Mondays across the South-East.
Others suggest the violence may have stemmed from internal disagreements among the group’s members.
One eyewitness said the attackers demanded the minutes of the meeting before opening fire, a detail that has raised suspicions of political or internal betrayal.
The gruesome attack has sent shockwaves through the Ogboji community and the wider Orumba South region, amplifying calls for increased security presence in Anambra and neighboring states.
The Anambra State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
