Edo guber: Court declares Ighodalo as PDP authentic candidate
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice James Omotosho has struck out a lawsuit lodged by Phillip Shuaibu soughting to void Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy for the off cycle governorship election in Edo State.
The plaintiff alleged that Ighodalo forged his voter’s card.
Justice James Omotosho ruled on Wednesday that the suit was statute-barred, as it was filed outside the 14-day window required for pre-election cases under Section 285(9) of the Constitution.
Also, Justice Omotosho stated that the plaintiffs failed to prove the forgery allegations against Ighodalo.
He thereafter dismissed the case.
Ighodalo emerged the governorship candidate of the PDP in a primary election held on 22 February 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
He scored a total of 577 votes to beat his closest rival, Philip Shaibu and 10 other aspirants.
