Edo Police arrests armed robbery, kidnapping suspects, recovers firearm

Edo State, Nigeria –In a major breakthrough, Edo State Police arrested three suspected armed robbers and kidnappers on March 16, 2024.

Officers and local vigilantes conducted a joint stop-and-search operation in Agbede Division.

During the 4:30 a.m. operation at Aviele near Abumere’s power line, authorities intercepted the suspects due to suspicious behavior. The individuals—Jamilu Idris (20), Usman Shuaibu (24), and Yahuza Usman (20)—were promptly detained.

Authorities subsequently recovered an English-made Beretta pistol, a dagger, and an Infinix phone. Investigations continue as the suspects face charges linked to recent criminal activities.

These items are believed to have been used in criminal activities perpetrated by the suspects and their accomplices.

Edo State Police Command’s preliminary investigations identified the arrested individuals as members of a criminal syndicate behind recent armed robberies and kidnappings.</p>

Additionally, the group is linked to motorcycle thefts plaguing residents in the area.

Meanwhile, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Command’s spokesperson, affirmed the police’s commitment to public safety.

“These arrests demonstrate our resolve to combat crime and protect lives in Edo State,” he declared.

We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within our jurisdiction.”

CSP Yamu further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who remain at large.

Additionally, police are diligently working to trace the firearm’s origins and link it to prior crimes.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command urges the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

Emphasizing this, CSP Yamu stressed that community cooperation combats crime, as timely tips from residents frequently aid successful operations.
