Edo stops deforestation, bans exploitation of reserves

The Edo State Government has embarked on efforts to stops deforestation in the state and to that effect has banned all forms of exploitation of forest reserves.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., Governor Godwin Obaseki gave the directive as part of efforts to curb deforestation and protect the state’s forest assets.

He noted, “It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that all forms of forest exploitation in the State have been banned with immediate effect, until further notice.

“Consequently, movement of logs through land and rivers in the state is hereby prohibited.

“Law Enforcement Agencies are, by this announcement, directed to be at alert as offenders are to be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Provisions of the Forestry Law.”
