El-Rufai Still APC Member — Bashir Jamoh

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Bashir Jamoh, has dismissed reports that former Governor Nasir el-Rufai has quit the ruling party, saying the APC still consults him for political advice “free of charge.”
Jamoh, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), told journalists in Kaduna yesterday that despite el-Rufai’s recent association with the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party’s Kaduna chapter has not formally severed ties with him.
“We are yet to reach the point where we will say farewell to Mallam Nasir el-Rufai,” Jamoh said. “Forget about the politics.
When we need his advice, we consult him, and he offers his contributions free of charge.”
El-Rufai, who served as Kaduna governor from 2015 to 2023, reportedly left the APC months ago over claims of dwindling internal democracy under President Bola Tinubu.
He briefly joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before aligning with an opposition coalition led by the ADC.
Youth Group Faults El-Rufai’s Rhetoric
Meanwhile, the Northern Youths Frontiers (NYF) has criticised el-Rufai over comments he made during a recent political gathering in Sokoto, describing them as divisive and self-serving.
In a statement signed by the group’s North West Zonal Coordinator, Saminu Tukur, the NYF accused the former governor of “deliberately stoking regional tensions” in a bid to revive his political relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“El-Rufai’s utterances were reckless, self-serving, and wholly unrepresentative of the views and aspirations of the North,” the statement read.
“His rejection by the Senate, following numerous petitions, was a clear sign of diminishing public trust in his leadership and character.”
The group said the ex-governor’s “veiled threats” about 2027 amounted to a desperate attempt to reinsert himself into national politics through controversy.
“Let it be clear that el-Rufai does not speak for Kaduna State, and certainly not for the North,” Tukur added.
