Elephant Kills Farmer In Ogun

A terrifying incident unfolded in Ijebu East, Ogun State, after a herd of elephants reportedly escaped from a government forest reserve and killed a local logger.

The tragic event happened at Onitasin Imobi, a remote community in Ijebu East Local Government Area, where a man identified as Musa Kalamu was fatally attacked. He was reportedly cutting trees when the elephants charged at him.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Mr. Taiwo Oludotun, said officials from the Ministry are already on the ground. “Yes, we are aware. We’re already on our way to the community,” he told reporters.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, also verified the incident in a WhatsApp message. He explained that the Divisional Police Officer in Ogbere received a distress alert around 4:20 p.m. on Monday. The report indicated that elephants had escaped the government reserve and attacked a man. “The victim died on the way to the hospital,” Ogunlowo said.

In response, the Ogun State Forestry team moved quickly to prevent further damage. “Calm has returned to the area,” Oludotun confirmed.

A disturbing video circulating online shows the lifeless body of the victim, known locally as “Kala.”

The graphic footage reveals severe injuries, with parts of his body torn open, confirming the brutal nature of the attack.

“This is Kala,” a distressed resident said in the video. “You can see the marks of the elephants. His intestines are out. The government must do something. These animals are becoming too dangerous for us.”

Locals say this isn’t the first time elephants have wandered out of the forest reserve. They claim previous sightings were ignored by officials.

Residents now fear for their safety, urging the government to secure the reserve before more lives are lost.
