Embattled Adamawa lawmaker calls for Gov. Bindow resignation

The embattled Lawmaker serving a three month suspension imposed by the Adamawa state assembly, Hon. Abdulrahman Abubakar has called for the resignation of Gov. Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, following the petition he wrote to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] in Abuja.

In an Exclusive online interview, yesterday with Hon. Abdulrahman who was removed from the house standing committee on Budget, Finance and Appropriation and simultaneously handed a three Month suspension, he called for the resignation of the Adamawa state Executive Governor, which he premised on his alleged acts of gross financial misconduct.

Abdulrahman said Sen. Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow the Adamawa state governor,  committed acts of gross financial misconduct by collecting an overdraft of N3 billion and expending it without the approval of the house.

The aggrieved lawmaker who said his expose of government financial malfeasance by the Executive had made him unsafe and forced him to relocate outside the state, speaking from his hideout, challenged the Governor to submit himself to the scrutiny of the EFCC, who will soon  summon him because he has presented the commission with the petition.

He stated that in view of the corruption charges against the  Governor, the only avenue opened to him is to resign, stressing that the allegation of gross financial misconduct, is  enough grounds for his impeachment.

“As far as I am concern I have reported him to the EFCC for him going for an overdraft of over N3 billion without the approval of the house, with the intention that if the bailout funds comes he will repay it,” he said.

But the Adamawa state yesterday through the state Commissioner for Finance Alh. Mahmood Sali Yunusa said the bailout funds received by the state from the Central Bank of Nigeria is safe and that  some category of health workers whose screening has been concluded and will soon be paid out of it, next week.

Yunusa also dismissed insinuations about the government misappropriation of the bailout fund noting that “every kobo that was received to settle the liabilities of staff is still intact”.

He said in line with the government commitment to utilize the funds for settlement of outstanding salaries and allowances owed its workers, a total of N362. 5 million has been released to clear the outstanding two month salaries owed the 952 staff with the Primary Health Care Development agency next week Monday.

He however, said the settlement of the  health workers being owed September and October 2014,   salaries by the state government following the case made by state commissioner for health Dr. Fatima Abubakar, which the governor also graciously approved.
