Embattled ex-governor Yahaya Bello released from Kuje Prison

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre.
He was freed after meeting the bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
Bello’s release was confirmed by Adamu Duza, spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command.
According to Duza, Bello was released on Friday evening after fulfilling the bail conditions, which included providing three sureties who own property in select high-value areas of Abuja, such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro.
Justice MaryAnne Anenih had granted Bello bail on Thursday in the sum of 500 million naira.
Bello, along with two others, faces a 16-count charge of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC alleges that Bello and his co-defendants diverted 110 billion naira from the Kogi State government treasury. Bello has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The trial is set to resume on January 29, 2025.
