The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Wednesday reaffirmed his commitment to install the newly appointed District Head of Bichi, Munir Sanusi, at the Bichi palace.
During a solidarity visit from a Bichi delegation, Sanusi stated that the installation would proceed as planned despite recent disruptions.
Last Friday, heavy security operatives, including police and Department of State Services (DSS) officers, reportedly blocked Kofar Kudu Emir’s palace.
They prevented Emir Sanusi from accompanying the new Wambai of Kano and District Head of Bichi, leading to restrictions on movement in and out of the palace.
While addressing the delegation, Emir Sanusi described the incident a temporary setback.
He said, “This incident is only a distraction. We do not know why it happened, and those involved haven’t explained.
“However, it will not stop anything. I assure you that we will fix another date for the installation, and your District Head will return to you peacefully.
“Please inform the public to remain peaceful and prayerful. Whatever the situation, peace and prayers will guide us through to the end.
“Given the respect Bichi people hold for Khalifa and Wambai Abubakar, they will not turn their backs on a son of the Khalifa presented as Wambai”
The Chairman of Bichi Local Government, Mr. Hamza Sule, who led the delegation, also expressed solidarity with the Emir.
He dismissed rumors about opposition to the appointment.
“We are here to show our support and allegiance to His Royal Highness, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
“Some rumors suggested unrest in Bichi, but we clarify that we fully support the appointment.
“We stand one hundred percent behind Munir Sanusi as District Head of Bichi.
We were in Bichi, awaiting the Wambai’s arrival, when we heard these unfounded rumors. For us, there is no violence or opposition, only celebration.”
The Bichi Emirate was one of four new emirates created by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje after dividing the old Kano Emirate.
However, Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) later dissolved the emirates.
