The Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued a strong warning to his former political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, amid growing tensions between the two influential Kano politicians.
Speaking in a viral video circulating online, Governor Yusuf accused Kwankwaso of repeatedly making disrespectful remarks about him and warned that he might soon respond publicly if the attacks continue.
“Tell them they are talking too much. Enough is enough. If they don’t stop, I will open my mouth and it will smell like hell,” the governor said.
Yusuf also appeared irritated by Kwankwaso’s alleged habit of referring to him as a “boy,” despite their age difference being relatively small.
“I wonder why a 69-year-old man will continue calling a 63-year-old a boy. That is unacceptable,” he said.
The comments mark a notable shift in tone from the Kano governor, who had largely avoided publicly criticising Kwankwaso since leaving his political camp for the All Progressives Congress.
Until now, Yusuf had consistently urged his supporters to avoid online attacks and maintain restraint despite growing political friction between both camps.
Political observers say the governor’s latest remarks may signal a deeper fallout and the beginning of a more intense political battle ahead of the 2027 elections in Kano State.
