Barrister Chijioke Edeoga has rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after a brief period with the Labour Party (LP).

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), his return follows discussions with PDP leaders, who encouraged him to realign with his former political platform.

Edeoga is a lawyer and politician with decades of experience in Enugu State politics.

Enugu State, located in the southeastern region of Nigeria, is known for its vibrant and dynamic political landscape.

The state’s politics are characterized by a multi-party system with various political parties actively participating in the state’s governance.

Enugu places significant emphasis on addressing local issues, such as improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare, which are often central themes in political campaigns and discussions.

Political actors in Enugu State work within the framework of the Nigerian political system, engaging in legislative activities and policy-making processes to meet the needs and aspirations of the people.

Edeoga previously served as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs under former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Before that, he represented Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Edeoga was a dedicated PDP member before his departure due to the party’s gubernatorial primary election.

He left after losing the ticket and joined the Labour Party to pursue his governorship ambition.

Under the LP, he became a strong contender against the PDP candidate, Peter Mbah.

Mbah won the election and is now the Governor of Enugu State.

Despite his departure, Edeoga remained an influential figure within the PDP.

PDP leaders, led by Enugu State Chairman Hon. Martin Chukwunweike, visited him at his residence.

They urged him to return to the party and contribute to its future strategies.

Before making his decision, Edeoga also received an invitation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The APC attempted to persuade him to join their ranks and strengthen their presence in Enugu State.

However, Edeoga consulted Labour Party stakeholders in his Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

He presented both the PDP and APC options to them for deliberation.

The stakeholders expressed a preference for his return to the PDP.

They believed the PDP aligned better with their political goals and long-term interests.

On Monday, Edeoga officially returned to the PDP by visiting the party’s secretariat in Enugu.

He described his comeback as a “homecoming” and reaffirmed his commitment to the party.

Addressing party members and supporters, he pledged to contribute to PDP’s success in future elections.

His return marks a significant realignment within Enugu State’s political landscape.

Edeoga’s experience and influence are expected to strengthen the PDP’s position in upcoming contests.

His departure from the Labour Party leaves questions about the party’s future in the state.

Edeoga was one of LP’s most prominent figures in Enugu State politics.

His decision to rejoin the PDP suggests a shift in political strategy ahead of future elections.

The PDP is likely to benefit from his renewed involvement and political experience.

With his return, political observers will watch how his presence shapes the PDP’s direction.

Edeoga’s move also highlights the ongoing political maneuvering in Enugu State.

As the 2027 elections approach, his role within the PDP will be closely monitored.
