Enugu State acquires two aircraft for Enugu Air

Enugu State has joined the elite league of states in Nigeria with their own airlines, following the acquisition of two aircraft for Enugu Air.

This development puts Enugu State alongside Akwa Ibom and Cross River States as the only three states in Nigeria with state-owned airlines.

According to reports, Enugu Air’s fleet will consist of two Embraer E170 aircraft, which are currently being prepared for delivery.

The airline is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2025, pending the issuance of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

The Enugu State Government’s decision to establish its own airline is seen as a strategic move to boost economic development and create jobs in the state.

However, some critics have expressed concerns about the viability of the project, citing the challenges faced by existing airlines in Nigeria.

Governor Peter Mbah’s administration is optimistic that Enugu Air will succeed where others have failed, leveraging the state’s strategic location and growing economy to drive demand for air travel.
