WARRI, NIGERIA — The member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief (Dr.) Thomas Ereyitomi, has dismissed a Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) membership card bearing his name and photograph as fake, describing the document as a deliberate act of political blackmail.

In a statement issued in Warri, the lawmaker firmly denied ever joining or applying to become a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, insisting that he remains fully committed to the All Progressives Congress.

Ereyitomi said the circulating card was fabricated by political opponents seeking to damage his reputation and create a false narrative of anti-party activity.

He stressed that he has no association or communication with officials of the NDC, adding that the claims were designed to mislead the public and distract from his legislative duties.

“The card is fake and a product of criminal forgery,” he stated, maintaining that those behind it were attempting to destabilise his political standing.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, noting that he has already been screened and cleared by the party for future political engagements.

He also disclosed that security agencies have been alerted to investigate the source of the alleged forgery and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Ereyitomi urged his supporters and constituents to disregard the circulating card, describing it as a calculated attempt to create unnecessary political tension in the constituency.

He added that no amount of misinformation or propaganda would weaken his relationship with the people of Warri Federal Constituency.

Political observers say the incident reflects the rising wave of misinformation and political manipulation in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, where fake documents and social media claims are increasingly used to influence public perception.

They note that such cases often trigger swift denials from affected politicians, especially ahead of heightened political activities and electoral positioning.

The lawmaker’s response also highlights growing concerns among public officials over identity forgery and digital misinformation in the political space.

Authorities are expected to investigate the origin of the disputed membership card as part of efforts to curb political impersonation and related offences.
