Family reveals Chief Edwin Clark’s last words

The family of South-South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has disclosed his final words before his passing on Monday night.

He died at the age of 97.

Diaspora digital media)DDM) reports that President Bola Tinubu and former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan have mourned his death.

Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Senate President Godswill Akpabio have also expressed their condolences.

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and several other governors have also paid tribute.

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF) have joined in mourning.

Chief Clark was a prominent leader in both PANDEF and SMBLF.

According to Vanguard, Chief Clark passed away at DIFF Medical Centre, Abuja, around 11:45 p.m. on Monday.

His family revealed that he had been preparing for his 98th birthday in May 2025.

The National Chairman of PANDEF, Ambassador Godknows Igali, spoke about his final moments.

His first child, Mrs. Rebecca Clark-Okorodudu, also shared insights on his last hours.

The family emphasized that Clark urged PANDEF and SMBLF members to continue their struggle for restructuring Nigeria.

His last words were, “I AM a Nigerian, I love Nigeria, Nigeria is my country, I am proud to be a Nigerian.”

The family stated that he encouraged Nigerians to persevere and never give up.

He believed in making Nigeria a better place.

Chief Clark had instructed that there should be no mourning upon his passing.

Instead, he wished for a celebratory atmosphere.

The family stated that he wanted visitors at his residence to be given food and drinks.

He made these requests last Friday before his condition worsened.

He became unable to speak.

He was rushed to the hospital for medical care.

He remained under medical supervision until he passed away.
