FG launches Green Money Project to drive youth participation in agriculture
DDM News

The Federal Government has launched the Presidential Initiative for the Empowerment of Youth in Agriculture, called the Green Money Project.
The event was held at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), in Ogun State as gathered by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM).
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture, Hon. Abiodun Yinusa, addressed attendees.
He described the project as a crucial step to unlock Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential by involving the youth.
Yinusa noted the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency on food security.
He explained that the Green Money Project supports ongoing efforts by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
The Special Assistant stressed that collaboration among all stakeholders is critical to achieving the project’s goals.
He emphasized that the project directly addresses unemployment, poverty, and food insecurity in the country.
“In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Green Money Project will empower Nigerian youth through agriculture,” Yinusa said.
He added that the project would attract, train, and support young people across the country.
Youth will be equipped with skills in modern farming, mechanization, climate-smart practices, and digital agricultural technologies.
The project will be implemented in selected universities, youth centers, and technical colleges nationwide.
The ultimate goal is to help achieve zero hunger and build a sustainable agricultural sector.
Project Coordinator, Mr. Charles Olufemi Folayan, outlined the initiative’s operational framework built around four core pillars.
The first pillar is creating a verifiable database of young farmers for tracking, support, and engagement.
The second pillar focuses on training in modern farming techniques, mechanization, climate-smart agriculture, and digital tools.
The third pillar will provide access to quality inputs, equipment, and agribusiness loans to boost productivity.
The fourth pillar will offer expert mentorship and connect youth to local and international markets.
Folayan stressed the project aims to create a new generation of innovative and commercially successful young farmers.
Professor Olushola Kehinde, Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for choosing the institution.
He described the initiative as a timely and strategic intervention for Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
During a tour of FUNAAB’s agricultural facilities, Professor Kehinde showcased the university’s research and operational achievements.
He expressed optimism that the partnership would significantly boost food production and agricultural value chain development.
He highlighted that students would gain practical experience and contribute meaningfully to national agricultural growth.
The Green Money Project’s launch comes as concerns about youth unemployment and food insecurity continue to grow.
By empowering youth, the government hopes to create sustainable livelihoods and boost national food production.
The project is seen as a major move to modernize agriculture and make it attractive to young Nigerians.
As the project rolls out, expectations are high for increased youth participation and innovation in the sector.
The Green Money Project represents a bold vision for agriculture as a future-driven, technology-led industry in Nigeria.
