Farooq Oreagba, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s corporate sector, has opened up about how his personal style and appearance have influenced his professional journey in mainstream business environments.

“I would say I’m probably the only CEO in mainstream corporate Nigeria that wears earrings and has tattoos. That has been a problem from day dot… It’s cost me certain roles, certain positions,” he said.

He explained that while his look is part of his identity, it has not always been well received in traditional corporate settings, where conservative dress codes and perceptions still heavily influence leadership selection and professional opportunities.

According to him, these biases have, at various points in his career, affected his chances of securing certain roles and positions, despite his qualifications and experience.

Oreagba’s comments have since sparked broader conversations around workplace culture, personal expression, and evolving standards in corporate Nigeria.
