Residents of several communities in Osun State were thrown into panic on Tuesday following reports that suspected bandits dropped a threatening letter at a public school in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The development sparked fear across the town, with the tension quickly spreading to neighbouring communities including Obaagun, Iree, Eripa, Otan Ayegbaju and Ila-Orangun.
As news of the alleged threat circulated, many schools in Ikirun reportedly shut down immediately, while anxious parents rushed to pick up their children.
Witnesses said students were seen leaving school premises in haste, with many running home amid fears of a possible attack.
The panic also affected schools in nearby communities, including Community Second Grammar School, Obaagun; NUD School, Iree; Kidvarc School, Iree; Baptist Day School, Iree, as well as schools in Eripa, Otan Ayegbaju and Ila-Orangun.
The situation later extended to Osogbo, the state capital, where some private schools reportedly contacted parents and guardians, asking them to pick up their children as a precautionary measure.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the alleged threat, while residents continued to express concerns over the safety of students and school communities.
