Renowned leadership coach and former presidential candidate Fela Durotoye has revealed how he rejected a N5 billion fraudulent government deal.

According to the information made available to Diaspora digital media (DDM), he said he faced intense pressure from a top official who claimed to be a pastor.

Speaking at the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) conference in Abuja, Durotoye described the experience as a major test of integrity.

He recounted being offered a contract to train people in 774 local government areas within eight weeks.

The official assured him that he had already been selected for the project and should submit an invoice.

Durotoye’s team calculated the actual cost of the training and arrived at N1.3 billion.

Three days after submitting the proposal, he received a call from the presidency.

He was told that the amount he quoted was too low and needed to be increased.

To his surprise, they proposed adding N700 million, bringing the total to N2 billion.

They then instructed him to revise the invoice to N5 billion.

Durotoye was alarmed by the demand to inflate costs and questioned the ethics of the action.

The government official dismissed his concerns and justified the fraudulent increase.

The official claimed he had served the country and deserved compensation.

He told Durotoye, “You have been doing well for Nigeria. It is time for Nigeria to do well for you.”

Durotoye refused to be swayed by the offer and resisted the pressure.

As tension increased, he made a bold decision to switch off his phone and cut all communication.

Three months later, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested some presidency officials for embezzling N426 million.

The stolen funds were part of an ethical leadership training program.

Reflecting on the experience, Durotoye stressed the importance of strong moral values in leadership.

He said only a firm commitment to integrity can help individuals resist corruption.

“Only your values can help you turn down corrupt tendencies,” he emphasized.

Durotoye also spoke about his time as special assistant to the president under the Tinubu administration.

He revealed that he declined all financial benefits associated with his position.

“I did not collect an official car, I did not collect a house, and I did not collect a salary,” he stated.

Government insiders were surprised by his refusal to accept perks.

One official admitted that rejecting benefits made it difficult to implicate him in corruption.

Despite the challenges, Durotoye said he met honest individuals in government.

These people shared his commitment to integrity and accountability.

“When we have the right values, there won’t be corruption in this land,” he concluded.

Durotoye’s revelation has sparked discussions on corruption in Nigeria’s governance.

His story serves as a reminder that ethical values remain crucial in resisting corruption.
