FG appoints new Acting Vice Chancellor for UniAbuja

The Federal Government has appointed Professor Mathew Adamu as the new Acting Vice Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja).

According to a statement issued by the Acting Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Roseline Adakayi, Professor Adamu will take over from Professor Patricia Manko Lar, who was appointed in February 2025 for a six-month tenure.

Professor Adamu’s tenure as Acting Vice Chancellor will last for three months, effective from Monday, August 11, 2025.

Meanwhile, during her time as Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Lar provided “purposeful leadership, fostered academic and administrative stability and… successfully initiated the selection process for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor”.

The new Acting Vice Chancellor is tasked with supporting the Governing Council, led by Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, to conclude the process for appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor.

The University community expressed “sincere gratitude” to Professor Lar for her service and leadership
