FG approves N45b pension payout for Nigeria airways retirees after 22 yrs

The Federal Government has approved pension payments for retired aviation workers, bringing relief to thousands who waited over two decades for their entitlements.

The Ministry of Aviation confirmed payment arrangements are underway, ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability.

The approval includes compensation for former staff of Nigeria Airways, which shut down in 2003, leaving over 6,000 employees without full pensions and gratuities.

Aviation unions had pushed for justice, threatening to shut down Nigerian airspace in 2018 and prompting partial payment approval in the past.

The development has been welcomed by stakeholders, seen as a significant step toward restoring dignity and rebuilding trust in the aviation industry.

The approval responds to years of persistent calls for justice from the aviation sector, promising long-overdue relief for thousands of retired workers.
