FG Unveils Tuition-Free Training for Technical Teachers

The Federal Government has launched a free one-year training programme for teachers in technical and vocational schools across Nigeria.

According to reports, the programme, called the Technical Teachers Training Programme (TTTP), offers a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at no cost.

The Ministry of Education announced the programme in Abuja through its Department of Technology and Science Education.

Officials said the initiative will modernize technical education and align Nigeria’s workforce with global 21st-century industry standards.

The PGDE training targets teachers handling technical or vocational subjects in public secondary technical schools and colleges.

Eligible teachers must have at least five years of service left before retirement, the ministry added.

The application portal opens on 8 July 2025 and will close on 21 July 2025, according to the announcement.

The ministry warned that multiple submissions would automatically lead to disqualification from the selection process.

According to the Education Ministry, TTTP will provide teachers with practical, modern teaching strategies and industry-relevant knowledge.

This move comes under the FG’s larger push to re-energize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) nationwide.

The PGDE course will cover several fields, including Building Technology, Electrical/Electronics, Business Education, and Computer Science Education, among others.

Other focus areas include Home Economics, Agricultural Education, Automobile Technology, and Vocational Skills Development.

The ministry is partnering with six Nigerian universities to deliver this pilot phase of the TTTP initiative.

These include Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Nigeria Nsukka, and University of Benin.

Also involved are Federal University of Technology Minna, ATBU Bauchi, and Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo.

Interested teachers can apply via education.gov.ng or directly at this Google Form link.

Officials stressed that this programme aims to prepare students for the modern economy by training the teachers first.

The FG reaffirmed its commitment to improving education quality and positioning Nigeria’s youth for global competitiveness.
