Sweden defeated Korea Republic in the Group F FIFA 2018 World Cup match played in Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, Nizhny Novgorod on Monday in Russia.

Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist scored the lone winning goal from penalty spot at the 65th minute after the first half produced a barren shot.

Swedes win marked its winning of an opening match at a World Cup for first time since 1958.

Sweden’s head coach, Janne Andersson, after his side’s 1-0 victory over Korea Republic, said:

“We created many chances and I’m confident that we can be more effective in the coming matches. Definitively, the best player of Korea Republic today was their goalkeeper.

After Germany’s defeat yesterday this win can possibly be even more important.”

Captain Granqvist and Budweiser Man of the Match said:

“We showed excellent attitude out on the pitch. We’ve had this throughout the play-offs against Italy.

“We’re a team, we really fight and we run for each other throughout each match.”
