Fire guts 5 tankers laden with diesel in Kano

There was tension on Tuesday in Kano state when five tankers, loaded with 20,400 liters of diesel each, were burnt to ashes.

The incident occured at Farawa Kwanar Yashi, in an uncompleted building uses as a diesel storage.

The incident, according to the state Fire Service, occurred due to a spark from a portable generator used to upload the diesel from diesel tankers to other surface tanks.

The spokesman for the Service in the state, SFS Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi said three people were trapped in the tragic incident but were all rescued alive and rushed to hospital for treatment.

He said their control room received an emergency call from a staff who reported the outbreak at Kangon Saminu Farawa by Kwanar Yashi Maiduguri Road and their men arrived around 00:29 hrs.

“On their arrival, they found that an uncompleted building of about 200 x 200 ft used as a diesel storage area, about five diesel tankers containing about 20,400 litres of diesel, one machine Lifan and three portable generators were ablaze.

“With the good efforts of our men, we successfully controlled the situation and saved three diesel tankers, nine surface tanks and stopped the fire from spreading to other premises.

“While three victims who were trapped namely Mai Daura Sadi 24 years old, Hassan Sadi and Iliyasu Sadi about 25 years respectively were all rescued alive,” he added.
