A devastating fire swept through Alaba International Market in Lagos State on Tuesday evening, destroying goods and properties worth millions of naira.
The blaze, which reportedly started from a small spark, quickly spread through the furniture section of the market, causing panic among traders and shoppers.
Traders were seen crying as the fire consumed their goods, while others made frantic efforts to retrieve whatever they could.
Some eyewitnesses accused market security of reacting too slowly, exacerbating the damage.
Alaba International Market is one of West Africa’s largest hubs for electronics, furniture, and building materials, with thousands of traders from across Nigeria and neighboring countries.
The fire has left many traders devastated, with some losing their entire stock.
As of press time, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service had not issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed the extent of damage.
However, operatives were seen battling to contain the inferno.
