Former senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, has died at the age of 67.
Nwaoboshi, who served in the Senate during the 8th National Assembly, was a former chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs. He also served twice as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.
Reacting to his death, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, described the late senator’s passing as a significant loss to Delta State, the Anioma nation, and Nigeria.
In a condolence message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor expressed deep sorrow, describing Nwaoboshi as a proud son of Delta State and a courageous advocate of the Anioma cause whose contributions to nation-building would not be forgotten.
Oborevwori recalled the former lawmaker’s role in advancing development in the Niger Delta and Delta State, noting that his advocacy and commitment distinguished him as a passionate and dedicated leader.
According to the governor, Nwaoboshi’s political journey was marked by selfless service, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals. He added that the late senator devoted his life to serving his people, his party, and the nation.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” the governor said.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and all those whose lives he touched. I pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
