Prophetess Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, the former queen of the Ooni of Ife, collapsed in police custody while being detained in connection with a tragic stampede in Ibadan.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the stampede occurred during a children’s funfair that resulted in at least 35 children losing their lives and many others being injured.

Since her separation from the Ooni of Ife, Prophetess Naomi has remained active as a spiritual leader and an advocate for women and children.

Reports suggest that Prophetess Naomi’s involvement in the event was part of her outreach initiatives, but the tragic incident has raised questions about her responsibility.

The funfair, organized for children, attracted over 7,500 attendees, far exceeding the expected 5,000, which led to overcrowding.

This overcrowding caused a deadly stampede, resulting in many families grieving the loss of their children.

Prophetess Naomi and Oriyomi Hamzat, a broadcaster and co-host of the event, were detained by the police after the incident.

Both Prophetess Naomi and Oriyomi Hamzat collapsed during their detention and were rushed to the Police Hospital in Eleyele for medical attention.

However, hospital staff declined to provide any further details about their condition.

The police have arrested eight individuals linked to the tragic event, and investigations are currently ongoing.

Agidigbo FM, one of the event organizers, has been shut down in the wake of the tragedy.

The Oyo State Government has announced stricter regulations for children’s events to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Governor Seyi Makinde condemned the stampede, calling it a “painful and preventable” tragedy.

In response to the incident, Governor Makinde canceled his planned December 25 birthday celebrations as a gesture of solidarity with the grieving families.

Families of the victims are demanding accountability for the tragedy as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.

As investigations continue, Prophetess Naomi’s role in the incident remains under close scrutiny.

The tragic event highlights the urgent need for better crowd management and safety protocols, especially at events involving children.
