Fubara Breaks Silence on 2027 Posters, Says He’s Focused on Peace, Not Politics

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied any link to campaign materials circulating ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fubara disassociated himself from the production of campaign-branded caps and shirts said to be promoting his political ambitions.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the embattled governor addressed his supporters in Port Harcourt on Saturday, stressing that he did not authorize the materials.
He described the development as unnecessary and a distraction from his goal of achieving peace and progress for Rivers State.
The governor’s remarks come just days after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the prolonged political crisis in the state.
Fubara was suspended from office for six months following his rift with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The crisis had crippled governance in the oil-rich state, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency by the presidency.
However, a high-level reconciliation was brokered last week by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In response to the campaign materials, Fubara said: “I was pissed off. Someone forwarded to me a video showing where they were producing campaign materials, caps and shirts, for the 2027 general elections.”
“I am not aware of it, and I did not authorise or send anyone,” he emphasized.
He urged his followers and the public to ignore such unauthorized actions and focus instead on consolidating the peace achieved so far.
“Every one of us should understand that we have done our best, and what we need now is this peace for us to grow,” he stated.
The Rivers political crisis began in late 2023 when Fubara and Wike, his former political godfather, fell out over control of the state’s political machinery.
The fallout resulted in parallel legislative actions, threats of impeachment, and prolonged tension within the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Fubara’s latest statement suggests a move toward stability, even as observers remain cautious about the fragile peace.
While the campaign controversy has stirred fresh speculations about his political ambitions, the governor appears keen on downplaying future elections in favour of current governance priorities.
Political analysts note that Fubara’s distancing from 2027 politics may also be strategic, as he seeks to rebuild his influence within Rivers politics under close federal watch.
