Fubara requests new date for budget presentation

The governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara, has sent another letter to the Rivers State House of Assembly, proposing Wednesday, March 19, 2025, as the rescheduled date to present the state’s 2025 budget.

In the letter addressed to Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Fubara referenced his earlier attempt to present the budget on March 12, which was disrupted when he was denied entry into the Assembly premises.

He explained that a soft copy of the budget notice had been sent ahead of time, and efforts were made to submit a physical copy through the clerk.

However, he and his team were prevented from accessing the Assembly complex.

Fubara highlighted that his actions were in line with a Supreme Court ruling, which he said directed the Assembly to operate within constitutional limits.

The letter also reminded the Speaker that the House had previously given a 48-hour deadline for the budget presentation, even before the governor received the certified true copy of the judgment and the enrolled orders.

Meanwhile, despite the political tensions, Fubara reiterated his dedication to fulfilling his duties to the state.

“No matter the depth of our differences, we believe the interests of the state and our people should take priority over political conflicts,” he stated.
