Yasser Abu Shabab, leader of the anti-Hamas Popular Forces militia in Gaza, has been confirmed dead after an internal clash, not involving Hamas.
His deputy, Ghasan Duhine, who was slightly injured, shared verses from the Quran emphasizing perseverance and is receiving treatment at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, Israel.
Abu Shabab had previously stated that his fight was against Hamas, not the Israeli people, saying, “We do not see the Israeli people as our enemies. Israelis have the right to live in security and peace.”
The Popular Forces gained prominence during Israel’s war against Hamas.
According to the group’s Facebook statement, Abu Shabab was shot while trying to mediate a dispute within the Abu Suneima family.
