Geometric Power Flags Off N1.8bn 42-KM Dedicated Power Line to Boost Industrial Growth

In a groundbreaking move to transform industrial power supply in Nigeria, Geometric Power, the nation’s foremost integrated power group, has commenced the construction of a 42-kilometer dedicated power line to serve industries along the Port Harcourt Expressway in its Aba Ring-Fenced Area (REA).
The ₦1.8 billion project, expected to be completed within three months, will supply uninterrupted, high-quality electricity to key industrial clusters in Abia State, a development set to revolutionize production capacity and economic activity in the region.
Powering the Future of Nigerian Industries
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Umuarakpa, Osisioma LGA, Professor Bart Nnaji, Chairman of Geometric Power and a former Minister of Power, emphasized that the Double-Circuit 33KV commercial line will deliver 24-hour, high-capacity power to industries, ensuring they can operate without disruptions.
“This line will radiate electricity directly from our 188-megawatt Geometric Power Plant in the Osisioma Industrial Layout to the industrial clusters in Ukwa, which shares a boundary with Rivers State,” Prof. Nnaji stated.
Industries in the area, including Oilserv, Nigeria’s leading indigenous oil and gas pipeline construction firm, Blue World Pharmaceutical, Foods and Cosmetics Company, and the Nigerian-British University, will benefit from a stable and dedicated power supply.
Ending Decades of Power Challenges
For years, industries in the Ukwa area have struggled with unreliable electricity due to shared distribution with host communities.
Lawrence Umeh-Udeh, Chairman of Blue World Pharmaceutical, noted that this had hindered industrial output and prevented companies from operating at international standards.
“The new line will solve this challenge in just 90 days, allowing industries to function optimally and attract even more investors,” he said.
This development aligns with the Federal Government’s concerns over unreliable power supply, which has forced 60% of Nigerian manufacturers to rely on self-generation, according to Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu.
Aba’s Industrial Revolution Gains Momentum
The Managing Director of Aba Power, Ugo Opiegbe, revealed that big multinationals like PZ are returning to Aba’s DisCo—the country’s newest and 12th electricity distribution company—due to consistent, affordable power following the resolution of past gas supply challenges.
“Neimeth Pharmaceuticals is now building a plant in Aba due to improved power, and the forthcoming Enyimba Economic City will transform the Southeast and South-South economy because of reliable electricity,” Opiegbe disclosed.
Additionally, Geometric Power is constructing three more dedicated power lines to support industrial clusters in Owerrinta, Ogbor Hill, and Factory Road, further enhancing the region’s power output by 60MW.
What This Means
Industrial Expansion: A reliable power supply will encourage more manufacturers to set up in Aba, boosting employment and economic growth.
Foreign Investments: Improved infrastructure could attract global investors, especially in pharmaceuticals and manufacturing.
Reduced Production Costs: Industries will spend less on self-generated power, increasing competitiveness in local and international markets.
Economic Transformation: The Aba Ring-Fenced Area is set to become a major industrial hub, rivalling other economic zones in Nigeria.
Conclusion
The 42-kilometer New Ukwa Line, funded through a vendor-financed option by Divine Point Group, marks a new era for industrialization in Abia State. With the Geometric Power Group spearheading this energy revolution, Aba is poised to become one of Nigeria’s most competitive industrial zones, driving national and regional economic transformation.
This is not just a power project—it’s a catalyst for economic change.
