Gov Okezie Ikpeazu Bans Touting in Abia State

Worried by the recent level of touting in Abia State, the State Executive Council has placed a ban on all forms of touting in the State.

To that end, henceforth, any tout arrested in cities in the State and the Local Government Areas in the State will be arrested.

The commissioner for Information and Strategy, comrade Bonnie Iwuoha who disclosed this at the Government House, Umuahia while briefing the press on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting said the administration of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has zero tolerance to touting.

He disclosed that the Golden Guinea breweries, Umuahia and the international Glass Industry, Aba will soon start operation while the Commissioner for Industry has been asked to visit the Glass Industry to assess the facilities on ground.

The Commissioner further said that Abia State Government is to embark on massive sports development as the Commissioner for Sports has been directed to produce a programme for grassroot sports development in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the State.

The aim he said is to engage youths meaningfully.

According to him, the State is to embark on massive renovation of primary and secondary schools through UBEC funds.

In his remark, the commissioner for Finance, Mr Obinna Oriaku disclosed that Abia State Government has entered into a tripartite agreement with the Abia state Government, the Central Bank and Development Partners, the international center for Development Affairs for the CBN entrepreneurial Development center for the South East zone.

He said that the programme is targeted at young school leavers, graduates and retirees who after the entrepreneurial training for 3 months can seek loan to set up their businesses.

The Finance commissioner who said that the training is free after purchasing the registration form from the CBN with N5,000 said the flag off date of the programme is the 24th of this month.
