Governor suspends three commissioners

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended three of his commissioners for failing to attend a crucial State Executive Council meeting without prior permission.
Diaspora Digital Media gathered that the the suspended officials include Solomon Azi, the Commissioner for Grants and Donor Agencies, Victor Chukwu, who oversees the Environment sector, and Ikeuwa Omebe, the Commissioner for Rural Development.
The suspension is set to last for one month. Governor Nwifuru took this action after the meeting, where the three commissioners were notably absent without any explanation.
Jude Okpor, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, shared the decision at a briefing on Tuesday.
Governor Nwifuru made it clear that absenteeism and unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated, urging public servants to maintain commitment to their duties.
He also directed that the suspended commissioners would not enjoy the benefits and privileges associated with their roles during their suspension period.
Additionally, the Governor warned contractors working on state projects to ensure they meet deadlines and adhere strictly to the terms of their contracts.
He stated that the government would not hesitate to use legal means to ensure compliance.
This move is seen as a strong stance against misconduct and unprofessional behavior in the government.
It’s worth noting that Governor Nwifuru has taken similar actions in the past, having suspended two commissioners in November 2024 over allegations of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
