Governor Udom Appeal To Nigeria Police Force

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has appealed to authorities of the Nigeria Police Force to checkmate the frequent movement of their personnel from one duty post to another to enable them familiarise with the terrain and combat crimes effectively.

Governor Emmanuel made the appeal during a courtesy call on him by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 6 Mr Abubarkar Marafa at Government House, Uyo.

The Governor who commended the state Police Command for being alive to it responsibilities said “proper policing would be achieved if the officers are allowed to integrate within a specific time frame before posting could be considered” and  however suggested that officers serving in their states of origin should not be left to stay too long in their states to avoid compromise in carrying out their duties.

He commended Mr Marafa for taking time out of his schedule to tour states in his zone to ascertain their welfare and pointed out that the motivational approach evolved by the AIG will go a long way to ginger more productivity in the force.

Governor Emmanuel acknowledged that Akwa Ibom is one of the most peaceful states in the country and called on the police to sustain their tempo of surveillance so as to rid the state of bad elements and safeguard investors and their investment in the state.

Earlier the Zone 6 AIG said he was in the state on a working tour of the Commends in the zone comprising Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Ebonyi, Abia and Cross River States and expressed appreciation to the state Government for partnering the police to achieve success in combating crime.

Mr Marafa used the occasion of the tour to canvass useful information from the public saying this would assist the force in the discharge of it responsibilities and solicited the support of the Governor for the posting of more personnel to the zone to beef up security.

The AIG was accompanied by State Police Commissioner Mr Muritala Mani and other top ranking Officers of the Nigeria Police Force in the Zone.
