Gov. Yusuf Frustrated Over Police Ignoring His Orders

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has condemned the attitude of the Police Command in the State on Thursday August 1, 2024.

He made the remarks during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Africa House within the Government House in Kano.

As the State’s Chief Security Officer, Gov. Yusuf alleged that the police were not following his directives.

The Governor stated that the police personnel assigned to the state were not cooperating with him.

“All the security operatives in the state cooperate with me, except the police.

“Any time I give orders to the police, they refuse to take them, and would say they take orders from above.

“Imagine as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of this state, I cannot give orders to the police. This is frustrating and unfortunate,” Gov. Yusuf said.

He also disclosed that certain disgruntled politicians were preparing to take control of the upcoming nationwide protest.

Their goal was to incite mayhem in the state.

“We have intelligence information that some disgruntled politicians from the opposition are plotting to hijack the impending nationwide protests in order to cause mayhem in Kano.

“They are planning to pose as members of our Kwankwasiyya movement to indulge in burning of buildings and looting of properties to make it look as if it is our supporters that are the ones perpetrating the acts,” Yusuf said.

Gov. Yusuf Urged a Peaceful Protest

The Governor urged the youths participating in the protests to act peacefully and responsibly.

He added that he was prepared to welcome them at the Government House.

Additionally, Yusuf offered to collect their letters of grievances for submission to the Federal Government.

“I will not run away.

“I will wait and receive them at the Government House to collect their demands and deliver same to the Federal Government, so long as they conduct themselves peacefully,” the Governor said.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, cautioned the youths to be cautious of the protests.

He warned that they could be hijacked by hoodlums, leading to loss of lives and property.

However, Yusuf agreed with the Governor’s decision to welcome the protesters and forward their demands to the relevant authorities.
